Thoughts on the Foil Quill

My thoughts on the Foil Quill Using Cricut

I have had the quill now for a few months. I am not an avid crafter so I have not used it to create a card Ive only tested it on various materials. I like to try out things that not alot of people are making. I just love experimenting!

Foiling on Gloss Vinyl
I decided to foil on some gloss vinyl and purchased this design as I thought it was super CUTE!!!

I tried to tape the foil down best that I could but as per usual it came loose whilst foiling :(
I am using Heat Reactive Foil/Hot Stamping Foil. Please do not get confused with Toner Reactive Foils as this WILL NOT WORK.

I used the Pink Pen tool for the thinnest line.
Remember to let it heat up for about 5 minutes before using.
I really am impressed with the outcome. SUPER CUTE!!!

So next was to try it on Matt Vinyl, Using the same method as above. Again it turned out great!!!

So now I was feeling a little adventurous and decided to try foiling on Acetate and continuing with  pink tip pen. I didnt think this was going to work at all BUT IT DID!

Please excuse the sheer state of my Mat

The acetate sheet is 240 microns and purchased from Amazon
Hello Kitty!
Maybe best to use more tape as the foil has a tendency to slide more on the Acetate.   I understand that the picture quality isn't that great but this so far was the best. I loved the results and decided I wanted to try another basic image out to see out if would turn out.

Foil on Acetate

So I grabbed a simple png file from google, I paid no attention to the detail because  I really was just experimenting and didn't think that this design would actually work well.

You can see that that its not perfect but that is entirely down to the design as the foil took to it really well.
I really want to experiment more with different weights of acetate. My friend loves it and is already demanded
that I make them for her. (It would need to be a lot better than this before I agree)
Still I think its great though.

I used the medium tip pen for this design.
The foil is midnight blue and purchased from Aliexpress

Foiling on Card......

Lastly, my friend also demanded that I try another design on card again we picked
a random png file and just went with it, this was the result using a glitter foil.

I really love the quill, I just don't like that we are limited with it.
The outlines are so frustrating, I will do a tutorial on filling the lines but
this method is so time consuming. I really wish Cricut would catch up
with its competitors and introduce a way to fill. I absolutely LOVE the foiling and it
is so beautiful. The problem with Cricut is that the design needs to be ONE single line
otherwise you will get outlines. I have the Silhouette Cameo and the difference between using the foil
quill on that is night and day. Its so much more professional. If using the Quill to make any sort of Invitation
or gift, then I would Not use it with my Cricut. It really should not be advertised as being
compatible for the Cricut Machines as it only works 100% if the Font is a Monoline, otherwise
you are going to get bubble text and this is the same with any designs.

Flower Power 🥴 Cricut

Well, where do I start? Flowers, rolled flowers, layered flowers and felt flowers any flowers for that matter I hate them.😭 We see so many of the beautiful flowers  postsed on Facebook and some have even completed an entire wall full of the most beautiful flowers you have ever seen and it’s all done with cardstock! So after seeing lots of posts saying “not bad for my first attempt”  and the pictures looking like they have plucked it straight out Beachgrove garden I thought I can do that! I logged into Cricut Design Space and as I am subscribed to Cricut Acsess I selected the purple image bellow I was only messing around to see if I could actually produce anything that resembles a flower and duplicated only 4 petals to test it out. I made each petal a little smaller then cut. I used cheap card bought from Poundland and cut it on the cardboard + setting. I was really surprised by the results and I was now on mission to cut more. I tried the rolled flowers befo...

EASY Fonts In Cricut Design Space. Inkscape Tutorial

Hello, I am going to attempt to teach you how to use all your pretty fonts in Cricut Design Space without the hassle.  Design space is so user friendly and it is by far the easiest software to use with a cutting machine, The fonts however are a NIGHTMARE. I am a font addict, I buy fonts EVERYDAY and download lots of free fonts. I have far to much.  When I started out on Cricut I got many free fonts from Dafont , Yet when I installed them and used them in Design Space it looked nothing like the font I actually downloaded. I had to adjust them all every time. bellow is an example. The red is the way I want my font to look. The text in green shows how far off Design Space displays System Fonts. I had to learn how to sort this as I wanted it to be exactly the way it is meant to be.  I downloaded  Inkscape  which is free and tried to figure it out. This is what I do....... Step 1 Select the A option to create a text. Just Click the A (highli...
